Planning Development Principles

RuralFX is committed to working closely with the planners in order to gain the most  potential from a building whilst keeping within planning guidelines set down by local authorities and national government. RuralFX feels as though a good relationship between the planner and the developer is essential which will result in a negotiated scheme which is favourable to all parties.

RuralFX does aim to push the boundaries of design. A good example of this is the Pheasants farm site where a previous approved permission used eleven sky lights on the front elevation stone roof to take light into the building. RuralFX proposed the demolition of the entire side elevation of the shippons and replace them with glass walls which can’t be seen from the front of the property. Some additional first floor windows on the rear of the property made up the rest of the scheme which still allowed enough light into the property whilst leaving the front elevation exactly as it has been for 250 years. This novel approach was a significant factor in winning the Planning Design Award.

Design Features

RuralFX has an award winning ability to understand instinctively how to design aesthetically outstanding properties by enhancing and complementing all the original features with their use of contemporary materials. Combining the old with the new and highlighting stunning architectural features produces a wow factor that sets RuralFX developments apart.

The exteriors of each development receive the same attention to detail as the interiors. Retention and restoration of the original style of the building is high on the agenda. Every aspect down to the mixture of mortar for the pointing to the styles of the paths, planting and driveways are chosen
carefully. Materials are used to retain the feel of a farmstead as opposed to the urbanised look which can easily occur with unsympathetic conversions.

Heritage of Buildings

Every site has a history behind it and a story to tell. By commissioning archealogical reports RuralFX has a more comprehensive understanding of the true nature of the buildings. This helps us to retain the heritage of the building for example by leaving the old functional features such as cattle feeding openings, stable doors or roof trusses intact and exposed for future generations to enjoy. The feel of the barn which RuralFX has converted is kept very much intact.
